The project is designed for healthcare workers, patients, and underserved communities, keeping mobility, adaptability, comfort, and accessibility at the core of the design process. By moving away from permanent and resource-heavy construction methods, the design introduces a portable healthcare system that can be assembled, disassembled, and expanded with ease.The design approach focuses on modularity, sustainability, functionality, and emotional well-being, ensuring that the outcome is both practical and meaningful. Through research into traditional carpentry and interlocking wooden systems, the project identifies the potential of friction-fit assembly techniques in creating durable and reusable structures without adhesives or metal fasteners.
Materials such as birch plywood, reclaimed timber, and sustainable wood finishes were chosen to achieve structural integrity, portability, and environmental responsibility. Techniques inspired by traditional joinery, precision cutting, and snap-tab assembly systems were incorporated to create a flat-pack modular unit that supports rapid deployment and reconfiguration. Visually, the project is defined by exposed wooden joinery, warm natural textures, clean modular geometry, and biophilic interiors, reflecting the balance between craftsmanship and modern healthcare innovation. The final outcome, a modular healthcare pod, embodies adaptability, resilience, and comfort while offering users a healing environment that feels warm, approachable, and community-oriented rather than sterile and clinical.Through this project, the designer aims to highlight how traditional craftsmanship can shape future healthcare environments, positioning design as a tool for sustainability, empathy, and social impact.
