“Transparent Narratives” is a project by Archi T Shah, Diploma in Interior Design, July 2025 batch at JD Institute. Inspired by the traditional glass craftsmanship of Firozabad, the project explores the theme of transformation, innovation, and experiential hospitality design. It aims to reinterpret handcrafted glass as a functional and interactive material within a contemporary café environment while responding to the evolving need for immersive and adaptive interior experiences.
The project is designed for modern café users seeking visually engaging, comfortable, and socially interactive spaces, keeping their sensory experience, comfort, and spatial flexibility at the core of the design process. The design approach focuses on functionality, innovation, material exploration, and user engagement, ensuring that the space remains both practical and emotionally immersive. Through research into the craftsmanship and fluid qualities of Firozabad glasswork, the project identifies the need for contemporary hospitality interiors that merge cultural identity with advanced material applications.The café includes zones such as the entrance, dining area,
front counter, kitchen, washrooms, and outdoor seating, all planned to create a seamless user journey. Materials such as smart glass panels, reflective surfaces, wood flooring, and textured finishes, along with techniques including integrated smart glass technology, sculptural lighting installations, and layered ceiling treatments, were chosen to achieve adaptability, warmth, and visual fluidity.Visually, the project is defined by transparent surfaces, earthy tones, organic lighting forms, and a balance between reflective and tactile materials, reflecting openness, fluidity, and the transformation of craft into technology-driven design. The final outcome, a contemporary café interior, embodies the fusion of traditional craftsmanship with intelligent modern systems and seeks to create an immersive hospitality environment where materiality becomes an active part of the user experience.Through this project, the designer aims to highlight how heritage crafts can evolve beyond ornamentation into innovative spatial applications, positioning design as a tool for cultural continuity, technological integration, and experiential storytelling. Ultimately, “Transparent Narratives” stands as a reflection of how traditional glass craftsmanship can be transformed into a contemporary design language, where transparency, light, and interaction shape the experience of space.
