Touch & Tension by Delancia Fernandes

“Touch & Tension” is a fashion collection by Delancia Fernandes, a designer of Diploma in Fashion Design, July 2025 batch at JD Institute, Goa. Inspired by the relationship between urban structure and the human hand, the collection explores the theme of imperfection, transformation, and tactile craftsmanship. It aims to redefine contemporary streetwear by celebrating the beauty of garments that remain in a state of becoming while responding to the growing appreciation for authenticity and handcrafted expression in fashion.

Design Brief

The collection is designed for modern individuals who value experimental streetwear, craftsmanship, and meaningful design, keeping their desire for individuality, texture, and self-expression at the core of the design process. The design approach focuses on craftsmanship, texture, innovation, and visual storytelling, ensuring that the outcome is both expressive and wearable. Through research into the contrast between structured urban aesthetics and handmade techniques, the collection identifies the potential of unfinished details as a design language that communicates process, vulnerability, and authenticity.

Materials such as cotton-polyester blend fabric and 100% cotton knitting yarn and techniques including smocking, crochet, layering, and fragmented surface development were chosen to achieve depth, tactility, and a sense of evolving form. Visually, the collection is defined by rigid silhouettes, layered textures, fragmented lines, and handcrafted interventions, reflecting the tension between structure and softness, completion and incompletion. The final outcome, a contemporary streetwear collection, embodies the idea that garments can serve as living records of craft and intention, seeking to encourage a deeper appreciation for process over perfection.Through this collection, the designer aims to highlight the value of handmade expression within modern fashion, positioning design as a tool for storytelling, experimentation, and human connection. Ultimately, “Touch & Tension” stands as a reflection of beauty in progress, where unfinished details become symbols of authenticity, proving that true luxury lies in embracing the vulnerability of becoming.
