Threads of Stillness Therapy Centre by Pooja R

“Threads of Stillness Therapy Centre” is a project by Pooja R, a BSc Interior Design and Decoration 2023 batch student at JD School of Design, powered by JD Institute of Fashion Technology, Bengaluru. Inspired by the traditional craft of knotting and its metaphorical relationship with human emotions, the project explores the theme of emotional healing and mental wellness through experiential spatial design. It aims to create a calming, non-clinical therapy environment that supports emotional recovery and self-reflection while responding to the growing need for holistic mental health spaces.

Design Brief

The project is designed for individuals seeking emotional support, therapy, and wellness, keeping comfort, psychological ease, and sensory calmness at the core of the design process. Conceived as a healthcare and therapy centre, the project creates an immersive spatial journey where users experience gradual emotional release, reflection, and clarity through thoughtfully designed environments. The design approach focuses on emotional storytelling, sensory comfort, fluid circulation, and craft-based interaction, ensuring that the outcome is both therapeutic and meaningful. Through research into knotting practices and the emotional symbolism of interwoven threads,

the project identifies the relationship between tension, repetition, connection, and release. Materials such as rope, natural fabrics, wood, and soft tactile finishes, along with techniques including curved circulation pathways, layered spatial sequencing, interwoven patterns, and gradual transitions from dense to open spaces, were chosen to achieve warmth, calmness, and emotional reassurance.Visually, the project is defined by flowing spatial forms, layered textures, soft natural palettes, and interconnected pathways that reflect the movement and structure of threads and knots. The final outcome, a holistic therapy and wellness centre, embodies healing, stillness, and emotional transformation while seeking to create a safe and nurturing environment for self-discovery and recovery.Through this project, the designer aims to highlight how traditional craft principles can inform contemporary healthcare and wellness environments, positioning design as a tool for empathy, healing, and emotional connection. Ultimately, “Threads of Stillness Therapy Centre” stands as a reflection of the journey from emotional entanglement to clarity, where space itself becomes part of the healing process.
