The Sacred Body by Miloshka Mila Cardozo

“The Sacred Body” is a fashion collection by Miloshka Mila Cardozo,  a designer of BSc Fashion and Apparel Design 2023 at JD School of Design, Goa. Inspired by the biological intelligence of human skin and its role as the body’s first layer of protection, the collection explores the theme of sacredness, resilience, and interdependence. It aims to celebrate the body as a living, layered system rather than an idealised form, while responding to contemporary conversations around body perception, self-awareness, and acceptance.

Design Brief

The collection is designed for individuals who appreciate conceptual fashion and meaningful design narratives, keeping emotional connection and personal reflection at the core of the design process. The design approach focuses on layering, structure, texture, and symbolism, ensuring that the outcome is both visually compelling and conceptually significant. Through research into the anatomy and functions of skin, the collection identifies the need to shift focus from external appearance to the unseen systems that sustain life.

Materials such as lachka, bridal satin, tulle, cotton lining, and cotton linen were chosen to create depth, softness, and structure, while techniques involving kalaga embroidery, layered construction and textural exploration were used to represent the complexity of the skin’s protective functions. Visually, the collection is defined by organic forms, layered surfaces, and sculptural detailing, reflecting the intricate relationship between protection, regeneration, and survival. The final outcome, a fashion collection, embodies the message that beauty lies in complexity rather than perfection and seeks to encourage deeper appreciation for the human body and its remarkable design.Through this collection, the designer aims to highlight the intelligence and resilience of the body, positioning fashion as a tool for storytelling, awareness, and self-reflection. Ultimately, “The Sacred Body” stands as a reflection of strength and interconnectedness, with each garment celebrating the unseen systems that quietly sustain life every day.
