The Echoes of Garden by Charvipushpa B C

“The Echoes of Garden” is a project by Charvipushpa B C, M.Sc. Fashion Design & Management, at JD School of Design, Bengaluru. Inspired by the ancient Japanese art of Tataki Zome, the project explores the theme of impermanence, nature, and environmental storytelling. It aims to capture the fleeting beauty of flowers and preserve their essence through direct botanical imprinting, while encouraging a deeper connection between children and the natural world.

Design Brief

The collection is designed for children and families who value sustainability, creativity, and meaningful design. Keeping curiosity, comfort, and environmental awareness at the heart of the design process, the collection transforms nature into an interactive and wearable experience. The design approach focuses on craftsmanship, sustainability, and emotional storytelling. Through research into Tataki Zome, a traditional technique that involves hammering fresh flowers and leaves directly onto fabric, the project identified an opportunity to preserve nature’s beauty in its most authentic form.

Rather than relying on synthetic prints, the collection uses the pigments and textures released by real flora to create unique surface patterns. Off-white modal fabric was selected as the primary material for its softness, breathability, and ability to absorb natural botanical impressions. Natural dyeing processes, including the use of tamarind seed husk, further reinforce the collection’s environmentally conscious approach. Visually, the collection is defined by delicate botanical imprints, organic textures, and minimalist silhouettes. The naturally occurring variations in colour and pattern celebrate imperfection, allowing each garment to become a one-of-a-kind record of nature. The final outcome is a contemporary kidswear collection that functions as a living archive, preserving the memory of a garden within the fabric itself.Through this project, the designer highlights the value of slow craftsmanship and sustainable textile practices. Ultimately, “The Echoes of Garden” reflects the beauty of transformation and remembrance, demonstrating how fashion can preserve fleeting moments in nature while inspiring future generations to appreciate and protect the environment.
