The collection is designed for modern consumers who appreciate refined fashion with cultural depth. Keeping the needs of today’s fashion-conscious audience at the core of the design process, the collection balances sophistication, functionality, and artisanal value through contemporary formal silhouettes. The design approach focuses on elegance, craftsmanship, and wearability. Through extensive research into Kharad weaving and the cultural identity of Kutch, the project identified opportunities to reinterpret traditional textile motifs for modern apparel.
Instead of directly replicating woven patterns, the collection translates them through Kasuti embroidery, creating handcrafted embellishments on collars, cuffs, pockets, yokes, plackets, belts, and hems. Fabrics such as twill, slub, and linen-cotton blends were selected to support structured silhouettes while ensuring comfort and durability. Visually, the collection is defined by geometric motifs, intricate embroidery, and an earthy colour palette featuring shades inspired by desert landscapes and traditional Kharad textiles. The final outcome presents a range of contemporary formal wear that seamlessly blends heritage-inspired detailing with clean, tailored forms.Through this project, the designer highlights the relevance of traditional Indian crafts in contemporary fashion. Ultimately, “The Desert Stitch” reflects the harmony between heritage and modernity, proving that cultural narratives can be preserved and celebrated through thoughtful design innovation.
