The collection is designed for children and experience-driven parents who value quality, comfort, and individuality. Keeping the needs of active young wearers at the core of the design process, the collection balances functionality with artistic expression through lightweight resort wear suited for spring and summer environments. The design approach focuses on comfort, breathability, and craftsmanship. Through research into traditional Shibori techniques such as Kanoko, Arashi, Itajime, Kumo, and Nui, the project identified the potential to modernise artisanal textile practices through discharge dyeing.
Rather than adding colour, the process removes pigment from pre-dyed organic cotton to reveal soft, organic patterns inspired by the craft. Cotton was selected as the primary material for its softness, durability, and suitability for both the discharge process and children’s wear. Visually, the collection is defined by imperfect handcrafted textures, cream-toned patterns, and a palette of soft blues, beige, ivory, mustard, and earthy shades. The final outcome features oversized shirts, breezy dresses, relaxed co-ord sets, and easy resort silhouettes that celebrate creativity, movement, and comfort.Through this project, the designer highlights the value of traditional craftsmanship in modern fashion. Ultimately, “The Colour Beneath” reflects transformation and discovery, proving that beauty often lies beneath the surface.
