The project is designed for contemporary consumers who value handcrafted products, sustainability, and culturally rooted design. Keeping functionality, emotional connection, and modern living aesthetics at the core of the design process, the brand creates products that seamlessly integrate traditional craftsmanship into present-day interiors and lifestyles. The design approach focuses on versatility, sustainability, storytelling, and user experience, ensuring that the outcome is both practical and culturally meaningful. Through research into Pattamadai weaving traditions, market positioning, and competitor analysis, the project identifies the need to reposition Korai weaving beyond its conventional use into adaptable lifestyle applications.
Materials such as natural Korai grass, cotton thread, fabric lining, recycled packaging materials, and wooden or metal supports, along with traditional handweaving techniques, were chosen to achieve durability, sustainability, lightweight functionality, and aesthetic refinement. Visually, the project is defined by woven textures, minimal contemporary forms, earthy tones, and handcrafted detailing, reflecting authenticity, emotional value, and timeless craftsmanship. The final outcome, a craft-based lifestyle brand featuring floor mats, table accessories, wall décor, storage solutions, and lighting elements, embodies the harmony between tradition and modernity while seeking to create stronger recognition and appreciation for artisanal practices.Through this project, the designer aims to highlight the importance of preserving indigenous crafts through innovative contemporary adaptation, positioning design as a tool for sustainability, storytelling, and cultural revival. Ultimately, “Tharai Living” stands as a reflection of balance and continuity, where traditional Korai weaving evolves into a refined lifestyle experience for the modern consumer.
