Royalty of Geometry by Pooja Sharma

“Royalty of Geometry” is a project by Pooja Sharma, a Diploma in Fashion Design student at JD Institute of Fashion Technology, Bengaluru. Inspired by the grandeur of Ancient Egyptian architecture and the storytelling traditions of Madhubani art, the collection presents a high-fashion couture interpretation that blends two rich cultural expressions through contemporary design.

Design Brief

The collection draws inspiration from Egyptian temples, pyramids, lotus motifs, royal jewellery, and geometric patterns that symbolise balance, symmetry, and power. These influences are combined with the intricate storytelling elements of Madhubani art, featuring hand-painted motifs of birds, flowers, fish, lotus, and human figures. Rather than replicating historical elements, the collection transforms these cultural references into elegant couture gowns with a modern and artistic perspective. The concept focuses on creating a visual dialogue between Egyptian royalty and Indian folk artistry. Structured ball gowns and A-line silhouettes feature geometric panel placements and carefully positioned hand-painted motifs, allowing each garment to narrate a story while maintaining a luxurious couture aesthetic. The collection highlights the importance of craftsmanship through detailed artwork, balanced compositions, and refined construction.

The collection aligns with the theme by demonstrating how traditional art forms can be preserved and reimagined through contemporary fashion. By combining Madhubani painting techniques with Egyptian-inspired architectural elements, the designs showcase the connection between heritage, creativity, and modern luxury.Premium satin was selected as the primary fabric for its smooth texture, rich sheen, and structured drape, making it ideal for couture silhouettes and hand-painted surfaces. The colour palette of royal blue, turquoise, ivory, antique gold, and black reflects Egyptian royalty, temple architecture, and timeless elegance. These shades enhance the richness of the garments while creating a sophisticated visual identity.Through “Royalty of Geometry,” the designer successfully merges cultural storytelling, artistic craftsmanship, and couture fashion. The collection demonstrates how heritage-inspired design can evolve into modern luxury garments that are expressive, meaningful, and enduring.
