Renaissance Rewritten by Ibrahim Liyam Ali

“Renaissance Rewritten” is a project by Ibrahim Liyam Ali, Diploma in Graphic Design 2025 at JD Institute of Fashion Technology, Bengaluru. Inspired by the gradual disappearance of handwriting in the digital age and the heritage craftsmanship of fountain pen making, the project explores the theme of revival through contemporary branding. It aims to reintroduce the cultural and emotional value of fine writing instruments while responding to the growing disconnect between modern communication and intentional handwritten expression.

The project is designed for young adults, professionals, creatives, students, and thinkers who value individuality, craftsmanship, quality, and meaningful experiences. Their appreciation for personalization, refined aesthetics, and thoughtful living forms the foundation of the design process. The design approach focuses on heritage craftsmanship, customization, and contemporary visual identity, ensuring that the brand feels both timeless and relevant to modern audiences. Through research into traditional fountain pen manufacturing, artisan-led production,

handwriting culture, and premium branding systems, the project identifies the need to reposition fountain pens beyond luxury accessories into functional and emotionally valuable tools for self-expression. Materials, finishes, engraving techniques, customizable nib systems, and premium packaging elements were carefully explored to create a cohesive and elevated brand experience.
