The project is designed for premium fabric buyers and modern consumers seeking authentic, handcrafted experiences, keeping their comfort, engagement, and emotional connection at the core of the design process. The design approach focuses on spatial layering, tactile materiality, sensory ambiance, and intuitive circulation, ensuring that the boutique feels both luxurious and deeply grounded in heritage. Through research into Kath-Kuni construction techniques and vernacular Himalayan architecture, the project identifies the need for retail spaces that celebrate craftsmanship while adapting to contemporary aesthetics and functionality.
Materials such as wood, river pebbles, stone textures, linen, cotton, silk, and earthy finishes, along with techniques involving layered construction, handcrafted detailing, and ambient lighting, were chosen to achieve warmth, authenticity, and sensory richness. Visually, the project is defined by organic forms, tactile surfaces, warm lighting, and layered spatial compositions, reflecting the rhythm, resilience, and material honesty of traditional mountain architecture. The final outcome, a luxury fabric boutique, embodies cultural storytelling, craftsmanship, and immersive retail experiences while seeking to create a deeper emotional connection between users and artisanal textiles. Through this project, the designer aims to highlight how vernacular architecture and traditional craft practices can evolve within modern commercial spaces, positioning design as a tool for cultural preservation, sustainability, and experiential innovation. Ultimately, “Prakrita Looms” stands as a reflection of heritage reimagined through contemporary design, where architecture, craftsmanship, and materiality come together to create a timeless retail experience.
