Phoenix: Arisen from the Ashes by Suyashaa Raghavendra Shetye

“Phoenix: Arisen from the Ashes” is a fashion collection by Suyashaa Raghavendra Shetye,  a designer of BSc Fashion and Apparel Design 2023 at JD School of Design, Goa. Inspired by the mythical Phoenix and the intricate craftsmanship of Huichol Art, the collection explores the theme of rebirth, resilience, and transformation. It aims to translate the powerful symbolism of rising from adversity into a couture fashion collection while responding to the desire for expressive, statement-making evening wear.

Design Brief

The collection is designed for women aged 25–30 working in the global entertainment industry, keeping their need for individuality, elegance, and visual impact at the core of the design process. The design approach focuses on luxury, craftsmanship, movement, and artistic detailing, ensuring that the collection is both visually captivating and sophisticated. Through research into the symbolism of the Phoenix and the vibrant beadwork traditions of Huichol Art, the collection identifies the opportunity to merge cultural artistry with contemporary couture.

Materials such as lachka, organza, and georgette, along with embellishment techniques using glass seed bead handwork, were chosen to achieve texture, fluidity, and a refined sense of glamour. Visually, the collection is defined by dramatic silhouettes, intricate beadwork, layered textures, and vibrant decorative elements, reflecting the strength, beauty, and renewal associated with the Phoenix. The final outcome, a Fall/Winter 2026 couture evening gown collection, embodies empowerment and transformation, seeking to inspire confidence and celebrate individuality.Through this collection, the designer aims to highlight the enduring relevance of handcrafted artistry in luxury fashion, positioning design as a tool for storytelling, self-expression, and cultural appreciation. Ultimately, “Phoenix: Arisen from the Ashes” stands as a reflection of renewal and strength, with each garment symbolizing the power to rise, evolve, and shine through adversity.
