Future → Built Creatively
“Perch of Echoes” is a fashion collection by Tanvi Narendra Kavalekar, a designer of BSc Fashion and Apparel Design 2023 at JD School of Design, Goa. Inspired by the emotional journey of a bride transitioning from her maternal home to a new chapter in life, and influenced by the storytelling traditions of Chitari art, the collection explores the theme of memory, identity, and transformation. It aims to capture the emotions of carrying one’s past, heritage, and experiences into a new beginning while responding to the deeply personal nature of life transitions.
The collection is designed for individuals who value meaningful design narratives and cultural craftsmanship, keeping emotional connection and personal storytelling at the core of the design process.The design approach focuses on narrative expression, cultural relevance, craftsmanship, and wearability, ensuring that the outcome is both visually compelling and emotionally resonant. Through research into the symbolic language of Chitari art, the collection identifies the importance of motifs, patterns, and handcrafted detailing as carriers of memory and meaning.
Materials such as ruby cotton, raw silk, and kora fabric were chosen to achieve structure, texture, and elegance, while design techniques like chitari art, inspired by linear patterning, layered draping, and handcrafted detailing, were used to translate the storytelling essence of Chitari art into contemporary fashion. Visually, the collection is defined by layered silhouettes, flowing drapes, rhythmic linear elements, and a heritage-inspired colour palette, reflecting the emotional layers of memory, belonging, and new beginnings. The final outcome, a fashion collection, embodies the balance between tradition and transition, seeking to celebrate the strength and sentiment carried through life’s most significant journeys. Through this collection, the designer aims to highlight the power of cultural storytelling in fashion, positioning design as a tool for emotional expression and preserving heritage. Ultimately, “Perch of Echoes” stands as a reflection of continuity and transformation, where memories of the past become the foundation for embracing the future.
