Future → Built Creatively
“Molten Reverie” is a project by Kushi Jain from the BSc Jewellery Design 2023 batch at JD School of Design, powered by JD Institute of Fashion Technology. Inspired by the traditional craft legacy of Bidriware and the visual idea of melting forms, the project explores the theme of transformation and fluidity. It aims to reinterpret conventional jewellery aesthetics through sculptural and distorted wearable forms, while responding to the growing interest in contemporary artisanal jewellery that values individuality and experimentation.
The project is designed for individuals who appreciate bold statement jewellery and wearable art, keeping self-expression, uniqueness, and contemporary design sensibilities at the core of the creative process.The design approach focuses on sculptural experimentation, material contrast, and wearability, ensuring that the jewellery remains both expressive and functional. Through research into Bidriware craftsmanship and fluid organic forms, the project identifies the opportunity to transform a traditionally precise craft language into something more evolving and unconventional. Materials such as brass, zinc alloy, and silver were used, while techniques including metal casting, silver inlay work, and surface texturing were chosen to achieve fluid silhouettes, sculptural depth, and visual contrast.
Visually, the project is defined by asymmetrical forms, warped contours, soft drips, dark matte surfaces, and reflective metallic highlights, reflecting the idea of movement, imperfection, and transformation. The final outcome, a contemporary jewellery collection, embodies the balance between structure and fluidity and seeks to create an emotional and artistic connection with the wearer.Through this project, the designer aims to highlight how traditional craftsmanship can evolve into modern wearable art, positioning jewellery design as a tool for experimentation, individuality, and creative reinterpretation. Ultimately, “Molten Reverie” stands as a reflection of transformation and artistic freedom, where rigid forms dissolve into expressive sculptural identities.
