“Minarva” is a project by Harini Pulivarthi, MA Fashion Communication 2024 batch, at JD Institute. Inspired by the intricate heritage of traditional Indian meenakari artwork, the project explores the theme of contemporary luxury, craftsmanship, and cultural reinterpretation. It aims to transform the centuries-old art of meenakari into refined modern décor expressions while responding to the growing appreciation for artisanal and design-led luxury products.
The project is designed for modern consumers who value sophisticated interiors, handcrafted artistry, and culturally rooted luxury aesthetics. Their preference for minimal yet meaningful design experiences remains central to the creative process.The design approach focuses on material harmony, understated elegance, and contemporary reinterpretation, ensuring that traditional craftsmanship is presented in a refined and modern manner. Through research into meenakari techniques, luxury branding, and contemporary décor aesthetics, the project identifies the need for heritage crafts to evolve beyond conventional applications and adapt to modern living spaces. Materials such as metal, glass, enamel,
brass, marble, and meenakari detailing were selected to create a balance between strength, transparency, texture, and ornamental sophistication. Techniques involving enamel work, handcrafted detailing, reflective layering, and sculptural composition were used to achieve a luxurious and collectible visual language. Visually, the project is defined by clean silhouettes, reflective surfaces, delicate ornamentation, minimal compositions, and a rich material palette, reflecting timeless craftsmanship and modern sophistication. The final outcome, a contemporary luxury décor brand, embodies the seamless fusion of Indian heritage and modern aesthetics while seeking to create emotionally engaging and artistically expressive spaces.Through this project, the designer aims to highlight the relevance of traditional Indian crafts within contemporary luxury design, positioning design as a tool for cultural storytelling, innovation, and artistic preservation. Ultimately, “Minarva” stands as a reflection of how heritage craftsmanship can evolve into quiet contemporary luxury, where tradition, materiality, and modern living coexist harmoniously.
