The collection is designed for individuals who appreciate luxury fashion rooted in cultural narratives, handcrafted details, and heritage-inspired design. Keeping elegance, authenticity, and contemporary appeal at the core of the design process, the collection creates a balance between traditional textiles and modern couture aesthetics. The design approach focuses on preserving the essence of the Phanek Mayek Naibi while introducing innovative motifs and embellishment techniques. Through research into Manipuri heritage, the project developed new motifs inspired by cultural symbols such as Sangai, Shirui Lily, Nura Khudonglei, Kombirei, and Kwaklei.
These motifs are translated into intricate embroidery using fine zari and silk floss threads, enhancing the borders of the flowing muga silk phanek. The collection further incorporates luxurious bead embroidery featuring Swarovski crystals, freshwater pearls, and gold seed beads on the blouse to create a refined couture statement. Sustainable craftsmanship is also reflected through handcrafted bamboo and water rush handbags featuring coordinated embroidered panels. Fabrics including muga silk, cotton-silk blend, raw silk, and organza were selected for their richness, comfort, and suitability for couture construction.
Visually, the collection is defined by flowing silhouettes, heritage-inspired embroidered borders, and a colour palette of pink, blue, lavender, yellow, and white. The final outcome transforms the traditional Manipuri textile into a sophisticated luxury ensemble that reflects cultural pride and contemporary elegance.Through this project, the designer highlights the importance of safeguarding indigenous crafts while adapting them for modern fashion. Ultimately, “Mayek Naibi Couture” reflects the harmony between tradition and innovation, presenting Manipuri heritage as a timeless expression of artistry, sustainability, and global couture.
