Interior Design Department Participants Guidelines.

Roles & Responsibilities of Participants

  1. Develop a Strong Creative Vision:
    • Conceptualize unique and practical design ideas that align with the JDDA theme.
    • Be open to feedback from mentors and refine designs based on constructive criticism.
    • Maintain clarity in design articulation through sketches, models, and presentations.
  2. Ensure Concept Clarity:
    • Submit well-researched and clearly defined concept statements for mentor approval.
    • Align ideas with design principles and project feasibility requirements.
    • Keep documentation signed and dated for tracking progress.
  3. Focus on Technical Precision:
    • Incorporate key design aspects such as a. Design principles (scale, proportion, balance, functionality) b. Material selection (sustainability, cost-effectiveness, durability) c. Execution feasibility (structural integrity, manufacturability, installation constraints).
  4. Time Management & Discipline:
    • Follow structured timelines and deadlines as set in Google Classroom.
    • Break project tasks into phases and adhere to completion checkpoints.
    • Track personal and team progress using Google Classroom and Excel sheets.
    • Ensure equal participation in project work and accountability for deadlines.
  5. Conduct Thorough Research:
    • Study relevant case studies, emerging materials, and innovative techniques.
    • Reference industry publications, academic papers, and real-world applications.
    • Present research findings with proper documentation and references.
  6. Engage in Industry Exposure:
    • Initiate professional connections with industry experts.
    • Participate in site visits to understand real-world applications of design principles.
    • Document insights gained from industry collaborations.
  7. Meet Performance Milestones:
    • Engage actively in structured critique sessions.
    • Document feedback at each project phase and implement necessary improvements.
    • Submit all deliverables through Google Classroom and adhere to quality standards.
  8. Adhere to Meeting Schedules:
    • Attend mentor sessions as per the communicated time slots.
    • Prepare queries and updates before meetings to maximize productivity.
    • Maintain a record of meeting attendance and engagement.

Project Phases & Checkpoints

Phase 1: Research & Concept Development

February 1 – February 15, 2025: Project Pitching & Guide Selection

Tasks:

  • Students approach mentors with initial project ideas.
  • Present concepts and request mentorship.
  • Finalize mentorship assignments. Deliverable (February 15): Mentor-student assignments confirmed.

February 16 – February 22, 2025: Space & Concept Approval

Tasks:

  • Refine spatial approach and conceptual development with mentor feedback.
  • Obtain mentor approval for the finalized space and concept. Deliverable (February 22): Submit mentor-signed concept approval form.

 

February 23 – February 28, 2025: Research & Case Studies

Tasks:

  • Research 5 case studies and 2 live cases.
  • Prepare in-depth reports analysing relevance and insights. Deliverable (February 28): Submit research reports for mentor review.

 

March 1 – March 6, 2025: Ideation Development

Tasks:

  • Create mood boards, material boards, and inspiration boards.
  • Develop concept sketches. Deliverable (March 6): Present ideation boards to mentors.

 

March 7 – March 13, 2025: Plan & Furniture Layout Development

Tasks:

  • Prepare bubble diagrams, zoning plans, and area statements.
  • Ensure layouts align with the design theme. Deliverable (March 13): Submit plans for progress review.

March 14 – March 23, 2025: Finalization of Deliverables

Tasks:

  • Justify theme incorporation with key points.
  • Finalize technical working drawings. Deliverable (March 23): Submit all final deliverables.

 

March 26, 2025: Final Review & Submission

Tasks:

  • Conduct a comprehensive review.
  • Submit Phase 1 requirements for final review.
  • Students must submit their social media account IDs for Instagram, Facebook, and LinkedIn.

Phase 2: Design & Prototyping March 26 – May 10, 2025

March 26 – April 8, 2025: 3D Model Completion

Tasks:

  • Develop initial 3D model drafts with volumetric studies.
  • Integrate materials, lighting, and structural details.
  • Resolve inconsistencies and finalize the model. Deliverables: Fully detailed SketchUp 3D model ready for rendering.

 

April 9 – April 22, 2025: A2 Board & Renders

Tasks:

  • Select perspectives and generate high-resolution renders.
  • Compile technical drawings, exploded diagrams, and concept boards. Deliverables: Minimum 5–10 high-quality renders and final A2 presentation boards.

 

April 23 – April 30, 2025: Draft Magazine

Tasks:

  • Structure project description, objectives, and visuals.
  • Format layout with high-resolution images. Deliverables: Digital design magazine draft.

 

March 26 – April 20, 2025: Industry Collaboration Confirmation

Tasks:

  • Identify and confirm industry professionals or sponsors.
  • Document site visits, consultations, or sponsorship agreements. Deliverables: Industry collaboration proof (emails, agreements, reports).

 

April 1 – April 30, 2025: Prototype Progress (50%)

Tasks:

  • Procure materials and initiate prototype construction.
  • Assemble key structural components and refine detailing. Deliverables: 50% completed prototype with photographic documentation.

 

May 1 – May 10, 2025: Final Submission for Phase 2

Tasks:

  • Conduct revisions, mentor approvals, and final reviews. Deliverables: All Phase 2 components finalized and submitted.

Phase 3: Finalization

May 10 – May 13, 2025: Final A2 Boards

Tasks:

  • Incorporate Phase 2 feedback.
  • Enhance technical drawings and graphic presentation. Deliverables: Two fully refined A2 boards (digital & printed).

 

May 10 – May 13, 2025: Final Prototype Presentation

Tasks:

  • Complete prototype assembly, material finishing, and quality checks.
  • Prepare documentation for presentation. Deliverables: Completed prototype with supporting technical report.

 

May 10 – May 13, 2025: Final AR/VR Walkthrough

Tasks:

  • Integrate models into AR/VR software.
  • Conduct test runs and finalize navigation. Deliverables: Interactive walkthrough and recorded backup video.

May 10 – May 13, 2025: Material Board Presentation

Tasks:

  • Select and assemble final material samples.
  • Label and structure material board. Deliverables: Physical & digital material board presentation.

 

May 10 – May 13, 2025: Final Design Magazine (Coffee Table Book)

Tasks:

  • Refine layout, proofread content, and insert high-quality visuals. Deliverables: Professionally designed project magazine (digital & printed).

 

May 10 – May 13, 2025: Final Industry Collaboration Presentation

Tasks:

  • Compile collaboration outcomes and structure presentation. Deliverables: Final industry presentation with documentation.

 

May 14, 2025: Final Review & Jury Evaluation

Tasks:

  • Conduct internal review before jury submission.
  • Present to the jury for evaluation. Eligibility: Only students clearing Phase 3 move to the Jury stage.

Summary of Phase 3 Deliverables:

  1. Final A2 Boards (2 Nos): High-quality presentation boards.
  2. Final Prototype Presentation: Completed prototype with documentation.
  3. Final AR/VR Walkthrough: Interactive and pre-recorded walkthrough.
  4. Material Board Presentation: Structured material selection.
  5. Final Design Magazine (Coffee Table Book): Professionally designed.
  6. Final Industry Collaboration Presentation: Insights and documentation.
  7. Jury Evaluation Eligibility: Only students who complete Phase 3.

Code of Conduct & Grounds for Disqualification

  • Participants are expected to uphold professionalism, originality, and commitment throughout the project. Failure to adhere to the following guidelines may result in disqualification.
  1. Encourage Independent Thinking
  • Take ownership of your design journey while embracing mentor guidance.
  • Ensure all work reflects your creativity and research.
  1. Maintain Professionalism
  • Respect deadlines, team members, and mentors.
  • Engage in constructive feedback sessions and design discussions.
  • Any form of misconduct towards faculty, mentors, or peers will lead to disqualification.
  1. Follow Ethical Practices
  • Ensure originality in design concepts; plagiarism, including copying ideas, concepts, or work, is strictly prohibited.
  • Properly reference all research sources.
  • Tampering with another group’s work will result in immediate disqualification.
  1. Commit to Deadlines & Attendance
  • Submit work on time as per the project timeline; failure to meet deadlines may result in disqualification.
  • Attendance must be maintained at a minimum of 75% by the end of the course.
  1. Adhere to Financial and Presentation Commitments
  • Execute the project within the approved financial estimate.
  • Ensure presence for all internal juries and evaluations as scheduled; failure to appear will lead to disqualification.

By participating, all individuals and groups agree to abide by these guidelines to maintain a fair and professional environment.
