The collection “Ikigai”, is designed by Amulya D H, Bindhu K, and Pooja G students of the Diploma in Fashion Design batch at JD Institute of Fashion Technology, Bengaluru and winners of “Best Creative Adaptation Award”.
“Ikigai” is a beautiful concept by the Japanese of a purposeful life. The beauty lies in the intersection of passion, skill, the world’s needs, and the reward for effort. The book explores the play of disruption and realignment while encouraging people to navigate the unpredictable nature of life with mindfulness and confidence.
This collection reflects the journey through flowing, sophisticated silhouettes that manifest the free-spirited approach to Ikigai. Each piece embodies comfort and style, which together empower personal expression and mental well-being. Through textile manipulation techniques and the effects of tie-dye, the chaos and dynamic feel of life are captured within, while solid colours impose a sense of stability and harmony.
The palette of magenta, cyan, melon, and white radiates purity, positivity, and balance. The choice of fabrics—pleated organza, Milano satin, and Mikasu imported lycra—enhances the fluidity, sophistication, and wearability of the collection.
Through Ikigai, the designers inspire us to pause, realign, and accept life’s ebbs and flows. It reminds us to find beauty in our daily routines, connect with our true purpose, and celebrate the turbulence and tranquillity of existence.
