Fashion of India by Aaditya Telagavi

“Fashion of India” is a project by Aaditya Telagavi, Diploma in Graphic Design 2025 at JD Institute of Fashion Technology, Bengaluru. Inspired by the growing influence of global streetwear culture and collaborations such as Adidas’ Chinese New Year collections, the project explores the theme of cultural fusion through contemporary fashion. It aims to globalize Indian visual artistry by blending traditional Indian patterns and artisanal design elements with modern streetwear aesthetics while responding to the increasing demand for culturally expressive fashion among younger audiences.

Design Brief

The project is designed for Gen Z consumers, streetwear enthusiasts, fashion-forward youth, and global audiences who appreciate contemporary style combined with strong cultural identity. Their interest in bold visual storytelling, luxury-inspired street fashion, and heritage-inspired design remains central to the creative direction. The design approach focuses on cultural reinterpretation, contemporary styling, and visual experimentation, ensuring that traditional Indian artistry feels relevant within modern fashion systems.

Through research into global luxury collaborations, streetwear branding, and Indian traditional motifs, the project identifies the opportunity to reposition Indian craft-inspired visuals within contemporary fashion culture. Traditional patterns, artisanal motifs, graphic reinterpretations, and modern apparel silhouettes were combined with digital design processes and branding techniques to create a fashion language that balances heritage with urban style. Visually, the project is defined by bold graphic compositions, layered Indian motifs, contemporary typography, luxury-inspired styling, and streetwear silhouettes, reflecting the intersection of tradition and global fashion culture. The final outcome, a conceptual streetwear fashion brand integrating Indian traditional patterns into modern apparel and accessories, embodies the idea of cultural identity through contemporary expression and seeks to make Indian artistry visible within international fashion conversations.Through this project, the designer aims to highlight how traditional Indian visual culture can evolve within modern design industries, positioning fashion as a tool for cultural representation, innovation, and global storytelling. Ultimately, “Fashion of India” stands as a reflection of heritage meeting street culture, where traditional artistry is transformed into a bold and contemporary fashion identity for today’s generation.
