“Afternote: Fragrance Retail & Experience Center” is a project by Sonia Hungyo, Interior Design student at JD Institute of Fashion Technology. Inspired by the timeless elegance of celadon ceramics, the project explores the theme of sensory storytelling through spatial design. It aims to transform a conventional fragrance store into a multi-sensory experience center where scent, space, and emotion converge, while responding to the growing need for experiential and immersive retail environments.

Design Brief

The design approach focuses on fluid circulation, sensory immersion, material expression, and visualcalmness, ensuring that the outcome is bothexperiential and refined. Through research intoceladon ceramics, lotus forms, and water reflections, the project identifies the importance of subtletextures, muted tones, and organic geometries inshaping emotional spatial experiences. Materialssuch as glass, ceramic-inspired finishes, soft-texturedsurfaces, and natural elements were chosen toachieve transparency, elegance, and serenity.Techniques inspired by layering, translucency, andreflective detailing were incorporated into partitions, display systems, and spatial elements to reinforce theconceptual narrative.

Visually, the project is defined by celadon greentones, fluid curves, reflective surfaces, soft lighting, and layered textures, reflecting the calm andintrospective qualities of the inspiration. The finaloutcome, a fragrance retail and experience center, embodies serenity, sophistication, and sensory depth, offering users an immersive journey that connectsmemory, emotion, and scent.

Through this project, the designer aims to highlighthow material culture and sensory inspiration canredefine retail experiences, positioning design as atool for emotional engagement and experientialstorytelling. Ultimately, “Afternote” stands as areflection of quiet luxury and sensory immersion, where fragrance is not just displayed but trulyexperienced through space.
