Echoes of Karnataka – The Siddhi Cultural Performance Hub by Minchana V

“Echoes of Karnataka – The Siddhi Cultural Performance Hub” is a project by Minchana V,  an MSc Interior Design 2024 batch student at JD School of Design, powered by JD Institute of Fashion Technology, Bengaluru. Inspired by Kavi art, a traditional mural art form known for its earthy red tones, handcrafted textures, and geometric simplicity, the project explores the theme of cultural preservation and indigenous storytelling through experiential spatial design. It aims to celebrate and preserve the traditions of the Siddhi tribe while responding to the need for spaces that encourage cultural interaction, awareness, and community engagement.

Design Brief

The project is designed for performers, artists, local communities, cultural enthusiasts, and visitors, keeping cultural expression, gathering, and interaction at the core of the design process. Conceived as a cultural performance hub, the project creates immersive environments that support storytelling, music, dance, and communal experiences rooted in Karnataka’s indigenous heritage. The design approach focuses on cultural authenticity, community engagement, sensory experience, and spatial fluidity, ensuring that the outcome is both meaningful and functional. Through research into Siddhi tribal traditions and the visual language of Kavi art, the project identifies the importance of creating spaces that preserve cultural narratives while adapting them to contemporary public environments.

Materials such as textured finishes, earthy-toned surfaces, natural materials, and handcrafted elements, along with techniques including organic spatial planning, layered textures, and open gathering spaces, were chosen to achieve warmth, authenticity, and cultural immersion.Visually, the project is defined by earthy red palettes, geometric patterns, tactile surfaces, and fluid community-oriented layouts that reflect the spirit of indigenous artistry and collective traditions. The final outcome, a cultural performance and experiential hub, embodies storytelling, heritage, and community connection while seeking to create awareness and appreciation for Karnataka’s tribal culture.Through this project, the designer aims to highlight how traditional crafts and indigenous narratives can shape meaningful contemporary spaces, positioning design as a tool for cultural preservation, social interaction, and experiential learning. Ultimately, “Echoes of Karnataka – The Siddhi Cultural Performance Hub” stands as a reflection of identity and tradition, where architecture becomes a living platform for celebrating the rhythms, stories, and spirit of indigenous culture.
