The project is designed for artists, exhibitors, visitors, cultural communities, and commercial audiences, keeping comfort, interaction, and sensory experience at the core of the design process. Conceived as a public exhibition and convention space, the project creates a high-performance cultural environment that merges trade, art, and spatial storytelling through innovative material application.The design approach focuses on sustainability, technical performance, biophilic integration, and cultural reinterpretation, ensuring that the outcome is both visually immersive and functionally efficient. Through research into Kerala’s traditional cement carving techniques, tropical architecture, and human-centric spatial systems, the project identifies the need for adaptive interior environments that balance climate responsiveness with cultural identity.
Materials such as Glass Fiber Reinforced Concrete (GFRC), textured cement surfaces, and modular acoustic systems, along with techniques including parametric CNC molding, tectonic lattice formations, layered relief carving, and integrated fibre-optic wayfinding, were chosen to achieve passive cooling, sound diffusion, and spatial flexibility.
Visually, the project is defined by sculptural lattice walls, topographic textures, botanical-inspired geometric patterns, and layered shadow play that reflect the organic rhythms of Kerala’s tropical landscape. The final outcome, a contemporary exhibition and convention centre, embodies sustainability, craftsmanship, and technological innovation while seeking to create an engaging and climate-responsive public experience.Through this project, the designer aims to highlight how traditional crafts can evolve into intelligent and future-ready architectural systems, positioning design as a tool for sustainability, cultural continuity, and technological integration. Ultimately, “Center for Kerala’s Craft” stands as a reflection of vernacular knowledge reimagined for modern public spaces, where craft, performance, and human experience merge into a dynamic architectural language.
