“Baag-e-Aina” is a fashion collection by Taniya Tulraj Singh, a designer of BSc Fashion and Apparel Design 2023 at JD School of Design, Goa. Inspired by the geometric and symbolic design principles of Persian and Mughal gardens, the collection explores the theme of paradise, harmony, and divine beauty. It aims to translate the spiritual and aesthetic essence of these historic landscapes into fashion, while responding to the enduring human desire for balance, order, and connection with nature.
The collection is designed for individuals who appreciate culturally inspired fashion and refined craftsmanship, keeping their preference for meaningful design and visual elegance at the core of the design process.The design approach focuses on symmetry, craftsmanship, visual balance, and wearability, ensuring that the outcome is both artistic and functional. Through research into the philosophy and structure of Persian and Mughal gardens, the collection identifies the significance of geometry, enclosure, and reflection as symbols of paradise and spiritual harmony, which informed the development process.
Materials such as silk blend fabrics and acrylic mirrors were chosen to achieve fluidity, luminosity, and a reflective quality that echoes the water features and symmetrical layouts of historic gardens. Techniques including thikri art, mirror embellishment and precise surface placement were employed to create depth, rhythm and visual intrigue. Visually, the collection is defined by structured compositions, reflective surfaces, elegant silhouettes, and a harmonious interplay of light and symmetry, reflecting the idea of paradise as a carefully crafted balance between nature, humanity, and the divine. The final outcome, a fashion collection, embodies serenity, sophistication, and cultural richness, seeking to immerse the wearer in an experience inspired by timeless garden architecture. Through this collection, the designer aims to highlight the relevance of historical design philosophies in contemporary fashion, positioning design as a tool for cultural storytelling and artistic interpretation. Ultimately, “Baag-e-Aina” stands as a reflection of harmony and beauty, transforming the symbolism of paradise into a wearable expression of elegance and balance.
