“Astral Opus” is a fashion collection by Annaliz Florence Fernandes, a designer of BSc Fashion and Apparel Design 2023 at JD School of Design, Goa. Inspired by the mystery, beauty, and infinite expanse of the night sky, the collection explores the theme of celestial elegance and transformation. It aims to reinterpret the wonder of stars, constellations, and moonlit landscapes through couture fashion, while responding to the desire for garments that evoke emotion, individuality, and artistic expression.
The collection is designed for fashion-conscious individuals who appreciate statement couture, handcrafted detailing, and meaningful design narratives. Their desire for distinctive garments that combine sophistication with storytelling remained central to the creative process.The design approach focuses on craftsmanship, innovation, movement, and visual impact, ensuring that each ensemble is both expressive and wearable. Through research into celestial imagery, astronomical formations, and traditional Badla metal embroidery techniques, the collection identified the opportunity to merge heritage craftsmanship with contemporary couture aesthetics.
Materials such as imitation raw silk, Lizzy Bizzy lining fabric, net fabric, and flat metal wires were selected to achieve structure, luminosity, and fluidity. Traditional metal embroidery techniques were reimagined to create intricate embellishments that interact dynamically with light. Visually, the collection is defined by deep midnight blues, reflective silver accents, sculptural silhouettes, and shimmering embroidered surfaces, reflecting the vastness, mystery, and brilliance of the cosmos. The final outcome, a couture fashion collection, embodies wonder, strength, and quiet confidence, seeking to create an immersive experience where garments transform through movement and illumination.Through this collection, the designer aims to highlight the enduring relevance of traditional craftsmanship within contemporary fashion, positioning design as a tool for artistic innovation and emotional storytelling. Ultimately, “Astral Opus” stands as a reflection of celestial grandeur and creative transformation, with every garment capturing the boundless beauty of the universe through the language of wearable art.
