The project is designed for seafood buyers, food enthusiasts, and casual visitors, keeping customer comfort, interaction, and accessibility at the core of the design process. By combining a seafood retail store with an integrated snack counter, the design creates a seamless environment where users can both purchase fresh seafood and enjoy ready-to-eat dishes within the same space.
The design approach focuses on functionality, spatial flow, sustainability, and immersive user experience, ensuring that the outcome is both practical and culturally meaningful. Through research into Assam’s bamboo fish trap craft,
the project identifies the potential of traditional weaving techniques and lightweight bamboo structures in shaping contemporary retail interiors. Materials such as bamboo, natural finishes, glass, and metal were chosen to achieve durability, ventilation, warmth, and visual continuity. Techniques inspired by weaving patterns and tapered fish trap forms were incorporated into display units, ceiling installations, and partitions to reinforce the craft narrative.Visually, the project is defined by soft curves, natural wood textures, neutral tones, and warm lighting that reflect Fab India’s earthy and handcrafted brand identity. The final outcome, a sustainable retail environment, embodies fluidity, comfort, and craftsmanship while encouraging customers to experience the store as both a functional shopping space and an immersive design experience.Through this project, the designer aims to highlight the role of sustainable materials and traditional craftsmanship within contemporary retail design, positioning interiors as a tool for environmental responsibility, user engagement, and brand storytelling. Ultimately, “The Curved Living” stands as a reflection of harmony between craft and modern retail, where organic forms and sustainable thinking shape a meaningful spatial experience.
